South Pole Group, Good Energy

“We strive to create a sustainable society and economy that positively

impacts our climate, ecosystems and communities”

South Pole started as “Myclimate”, an NGO formed by five young environmental entrepreneurs with scientific, economic and environmental backgrounds. The dream of this five visionaries was to tackle climate change challenges. With time, their realized that those different disciplines, thus vision of the world, could be the added value that would underpin a new business idea. and that was how Myclimate moved to South Pole Carbon until 2015 when the organization finally became South Pole Group – the company of the Penguin logo – an organization that offers a wide range of sustainability services, including climate policy and strategy advisory, in addition to high quality carbon credits. South Pole Group has successfully developed over 500 emission reduction projects in renewables, forestry, agriculture, industry, households and public institutions.

South Pole group is aware that business world would only become ‘green’ if becoming sustainable meant also making money. Within a few years South Pole Carbon grew faster opening satellites across the world; Thailand, China, Mexico, India, Kenya among others.

South Pole Group’s original dream remains strong as always: to create a sustainable society and economy that positively impact our climate, ecosystems and communities. And that’s why, in part, the reason of the Penguin.  The penguin’s natural habitat is the South Pole, Antarctica; the last unharmed place on earth and the final frontier of climate preservation. Then, the ability of the seventeen-different species to adapt to different climate zones makes the penguin an inspirational symbol for climate change awareness.

The Good Energy in Thailand.

In order to grounded its purpose of tackling climate change, South Pole Group has drawn noteworthy projects across the world. In Thailand, for example, the company is making presence with Lan Dokmai, Siam Cement, Bangna and Nakhon projects. All of them related with either biomass or biogas energy production.

Lan Dokmai Biogas

Few years ago, the inhabitants of the surrounding villages could smell the open lagoons used for clearing the starch wastewater. With the project -an enclosed anaerobic wastewater treatment facility at a starch manufacturing plant- not only has the local air and water quality improved significantly but at the same time the starch plant has managed to reduce its fossil fuel use by up to 4700 liters per day. In addition, the project and the resulting carbon revenue has generated jobs for locals and supported social and educational activities in the community.

Siam Cement Biomass to Energy

Throughout the project “Siam Cement Biomass” South Pole group is reducing carbon emissions at large scale replacing fossil fuels with renewable biomass in five cement manufacturing plants across Thailand. The project is improving lives by reducing burning of agricultural leftovers, increasing local air quality, providing biogas facility for educational and cooking purposes, among others. More about Siam Cement Biomass project.

 Bangna Biogas

As Tapioca industry consist of open anaerobic lagoons, Bangna Biogas project aim to minimize environmental impacts by cleaning the wastewater more efficiently, contributing to water conservation. In addition, the project will avoid odour emissions and pathogenic conditions as compared to an anaerobic lagoon, which contributes significantly to an improved life quality around the project site.

Nakhon Biogas

As same as Lan Dokmai wastewater issues Nakhon project not only the local air and water quality has been improved significantly, at the same time the starch plant managed to reduce its fossil fuel use by 80%. The now clean wastewater cycle even allows for fish farming in the water that is finally released from the new process. In addition, the project and the resulting carbon revenues generated jobs for locals and support social and educational activities in the community to enable sustainable development.

As global renewable energy partner, South Pole Group guarantees that the SB’17 Bangkok is fully powered with renewable energy. You can find out more about the global Renewable Energy partnership between South Pole Group and Sustainable Brands this November, 29-30th.
